Context This distinction between concern of parents and teachers has blurred during the lockdown, therefor for any teaching-learning approach now must be imbued with care, concern, and compassion.

  • Delhi government has taken a step in this direction

Initiative launched by Delhi Government

  1. Parenting in the time of corona: It seeks to combine the role of parents and teachers and encourage them to step into each other’s shoes.
  2. Generic Happiness class for family: Government teachers conducted daily online classes on two distinct components of the happiness curriculum — the practice of mindfulness and self-reflection through stories and activities.

Two-Fold Strategies to ensure the continuous learning of children

  • For Children upto 8th class (non-internet-based approach)
    • Information on daily activities is sent through SMS and IVR (interactive voice response) to parents. (as 40% of children at elementary school do not have access to smart phones.)
    • Mission Buniyaad: It involves parent in helping in reading, writing, basic arithmetic.
    • Happiness activities: support the emotional well-being of children and encourage them to self-reflect and think critically.
  • For 9th to 12th class (online approach)
    • Live online classes is conducted in 11 subjects by a lead teacher
    • Collaboration: technology partner like Career Launcher, Khan Academy, Macmillan Education and British Council in their respective area of expertise.
    • 68% students in higher classes have access to smartphone.

Commitment to the initiative:

  • Weekly review of system is being done by Education Minister of Delhi.
  • Delhi government plans to telecast its classes as per the lesson plan of its schools on free-to-air TV channels.
