These positions, which include roles in the  IAS, IPS, IFS, among others, attract millions of aspirants every year. However, before one can apply for the UPSC exam, it is essential to meet certain eligibility criteria, and age is one of the most important factors in determining whether a candidate qualifies for the exam or not.

Here we will discuss UPSC Age Calculator 2025, UPSC Age Calculator Tool, and provide an overview of the UPSC Age Limit.

UPSC Age Limit Category-wise 2025

Before delving into UPSC Age Calculator 2025, it is important to first understand UPSC Age Limit. The age limit for the UPSC CSE varies based on the candidate’s category, and this can impact the application process. The age limits are set by the UPSC as per its notification each year, and it is crucial for every aspirant to meet these requirements before applying.

As of the 2025 examination cycle, the general age limit is as follows:

    • General Category: Candidates must be between 21 and 32 years of age on 1st August of the year of the exam. This means the candidate must not have reached the age of 32 before the specified date but must be at least 21 years old.
    • OBC Category: For candidates belonging to the Other Backward Classes (OBC), the upper age limit is relaxed by 3 years. Therefore, the candidate must be between 21 and 35 years of age.
    • SC/ST Category: Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates are given maximum relaxation, with an upper age limit of 37 years.
    • Disabled (PwD) Candidates: PwD are also eligible for age relaxation. The general category PwD candidates have an upper age limit of 42 years, while those from the OBC and SC/ST categories can avail of further relaxations.
  • Ex-Servicemen: Ex-servicemen are provided with a relaxation of 5 years, allowing them to apply until they are 37 years old. For OBC and SC/ST ex-servicemen, this age limit is further relaxed.
  • Other Relaxations: There are specific age relaxations for defense personnel, and candidates from specific regions or states.

These age criteria are integral to determining eligibility, and each candidate must ensure they meet these requirements before applying for the UPSC examination.

How to Calculate Age for UPSC 2025

Calculating the correct age is crucial for determining whether you meet UPSC Age Limit for 2025. UPSC specifies that the candidate’s age will be calculated as of 1st August 2025, regardless of the date they submit their application or appear for the exam. Here’s how to calculate your age for UPSC 2025:

  • Determine Your Date of Birth: The first step is to know your exact date of birth. This is available on official documents like your birth certificate, Aadhaar card, passport, or school certificate.
  • Find the Relevant Date: For UPSC 2025, the relevant date is 1st August 2025. The age eligibility will be checked based on this date. So, for example, if you were born on 1st August 1994, you would be 31 years old on 1st August 2025.
  • Subtract Your Date of Birth from the Relevant Date: Once you have your birth date and the relevant date, calculate your age by subtracting the year of your birth from 2025. However, you also need to account for the month and day.
    • If your birthday is before 1st August, you are already that age on 1st August 2025.
    • If your birthday is after 1st August, then your age on 1st August will be one year less.

Example 1:

  • Date of Birth: 15th March 1994
  • Relevant Date: 1st August 2025
  • Age: 2025 – 1994 = 31 years. Since your birthday has already passed in March, your age will be 31 on 1st August 2025.

Example 2:

  • Date of Birth: 15th September 1994
  • Relevant Date: 1st August 2025
  • Age: 2025 – 1994 = 31 years, but since your birthday falls after 1st August, your age on that date will be 30.
