The two satellites, SDX01 (Chaser) and SDX02 (Target), docked flawlessly under ISRO’s precise control at the Mission Operations Complex. ISRO’s SpaDeX Mission Launch Date and Satellites Involved

Earlier SpaDeX Mission was scheduled for launch on December 30, 2024, aboard the PSLV C60 rocket from Sriharikota, India but it was delayed. On 16th January the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully docked the SpaDeX satellites. The mission consists of two key satellites:

  • Chaser (SDX01): This satellite will approach and interact with the target satellite in the mission.
  • Target (SDX02): The target satellite will be the docking point for the chaser satellite.

Docking Procedure in the SpaDeX Mission

The docking procedure is a carefully planned sequence that will unfold in stages. The procedure includes the following steps:

  • Distance Reduction: The two satellites will first reduce their distance from 500 meters to 225 meters, followed by further reductions to 15 meters and finally to 3 meters.
  • Docking Mechanism: The satellites are equipped with extended rings that will connect during the docking phase. After this, the connection will be rigidized to secure both satellites firmly in place.
  • Integration and Testing: The final phase of the mission will test the power-sharing between the satellites, and synchronized control commands will be issued as if both satellites were a single unit.
