Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from a UGC-recognized university or institution. Final year students may apply provisionally, but must possess the degree/final marksheet before the Mains application (DAF) stage.
There is no restriction on the number of attempts for the RPSC RAS exam, as long as the candidate remains within the prescribed age bracket.
The selection process consists of three stages: Preliminary Examination, Main (Written) Examination, and Interview / Personality Test. The Prelims is purely a screening test — its marks are not counted in the final merit list. Final merit is determined solely by Mains + Interview marks.
| Paper | Subject | Questions | Marks | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Single Paper | General Knowledge & General Science | 150 | 200 | 3 Hours |
The Mains is the merit-determining stage. It consists of four descriptive papers totalling 800 marks.
| Paper | Subject | Marks | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Paper I | General Studies – I (History, Art & Culture, Geography, Economy of Rajasthan) | 200 | 3 Hours |
| Paper II | General Studies – II (Indian Polity, Governance, Economy, Science & Technology) | 200 | 3 Hours |
| Paper III | General Studies – III (Current Affairs, Rajasthan GK, Environment) | 200 | 3 Hours |
| Paper IV | General Hindi & General English | 200 | 3 Hours |
| Component | Marks |
|---|---|
| Personality Test (Interview) | 100 Marks |
The interview assesses the candidate’s personality, communication skills, decision-making ability, ethical judgment, and overall suitability for administrative service. The final merit list is based on Mains (800) + Interview (100) = 900 marks.
The new syllabus was officially issued on 9th January 2026 and will be followed for the 2026 examination.
The application process is entirely online through the SSO Rajasthan Recruitment Portal. Applications open from 4th June 2026 at sso.rajasthan.gov.in.

RPSC RAS posts offer an attractive salary structure based on the Rajasthan 7th Pay Commission matrix, along with DA, HRA, TA, and other allowances.
| Post Group | Pay Level | Basic Pay Range (Approx.) |
|---|---|---|
| State Services (RAS, RPS, Accounts, etc.) | Level 10–14 | ₹33,800 – ₹1,51,100 per month |
| Subordinate Services (Tehsildar, Dev. Officer, etc.) | Level 10–11 | ₹33,800 – ₹1,06,700 per month |
Beyond the salary, selected RAS officers are entitled to government accommodation, official vehicles (for senior posts), medical benefits, National Pension Scheme (NPS) contributions, and significant career progression within the Rajasthan administrative machinery. RAS officers are also eligible for promotion to the IAS cadre over time.
The RPSC RAS exam demands consistent, well-rounded preparation. Here is a structured approach between now and the Prelims on 29th November 2026.
Begin by downloading the official RPSC RAS 2026 Notification PDF and carefully mapping the new syllabus issued in January 2026. The Prelims GS paper heavily focuses on Rajasthan-specific content, Indian History, Polity, and Current Affairs.
Read NCERT books from Classes 6–12 for History, Geography, Polity, and Economics. These form the bedrock for both Prelims and Mains GS papers.
Rajasthan-related questions dominate both Prelims and Mains — covering history, art & culture, geography, economy, governance, and current affairs. Rajasthan GK can account for 30–40% of the Prelims paper, giving local aspirants a natural advantage. Regularly read the Rajasthan Economic Survey, Census data, and State Budget highlights.
Follow a national newspaper daily (The Hindu / Hindustan Times). For Rajasthan current affairs, track Rajasthan Patrika and Dainik Bhaskar (Rajasthan editions) and subscribe to monthly RPSC current affairs compilations.
Solve at least 5–7 years of RPSC RAS previous year question papers. This is the single most productive activity for understanding the pattern, difficulty level, and recurring topic areas. Note that the new 2026 syllabus has changes — weight accordingly.
Unlike BPSC, RPSC RAS Prelims carries negative marking of 1/3rd for wrong answers. This makes smart, selective answering critical. Aim to attempt questions only where you are reasonably confident.
Do not wait until after Prelims. Begin practicing 150–200 word descriptive answers on History, Geography, Polity, and Economy topics. For GS papers, follow a structure of Introduction → Body → Conclusion with diagrams/maps where relevant.
| Area | Time Allocation |
|---|---|
| Rajasthan GK (History, Geography, Economy, Culture) | 35% |
| Static GS (History, Polity, Geography, Science) | 30% |
| Current Affairs (National & Rajasthan) | 25% |
| Revision, Mock Tests & PYQs | 10% |
| Subject | Recommended Book / Resource |
|---|---|
| Rajasthan History & Culture | Rajasthan Ki Sampoorna Jankari by L.R. Gurjar / Rajasthan General Knowledge by Sanjay Sharma |
| Rajasthan Geography | Rajasthan Ka Bhugol by H.S. Sharma |
| Indian History | NCERT (Old) Classes 11–12 + Spectrum’s Modern India by Rajiv Ahir |
| Indian Geography | Certificate Physical Geography by G.C. Leong + NCERT |
| Indian Polity | Indian Polity by M. Laxmikanth |
| Indian Economy | Indian Economy by Ramesh Singh |
| General Science | Lucent’s General Science |
| Current Affairs | Yojana, Kurukshetra, PIB, Rajasthan Patrika, Monthly Current Affairs |
| RPSC Practice | RPSC RAS Previous Year Papers (10 Years) + RAS Test Series |
