This article covers all aspects of RPSC RAS age eligibility: general and non-gazetted age ranges, category-wise relaxations (SC/ST/OBC, female, PwD, widows/divorced), domicile considerations, and number of attempts. It explains how the age cutoff is determined and outlines the education and nationality requirements.

RAS (Rajasthan Administrative Service) is a prestigious state civil service exam conducted by the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC). RPSC is the constitutional body responsible for recruiting candidates into various Group A and B posts in Rajasthan. The RAS exam (often called the RPSC State and Subordinate Services Combined Competitive Exam) fills administrative, policing, accounts, and allied posts in the state. RAS aspirants must meet certain eligibility rules on age, education, nationality, etc., which are generally consistent across exam cycles.
To apply for RAS, candidates must typically be at least 21 years old and not above 40 years of age (as per the RPSC notification cutoff). Special provisions allow older ages for certain non-gazetted posts. The general age ranges are:
|
Post Type |
RAS Minimum Age |
RAS Maximum Age |
| RAS (Group A) | 21 | 40 |
| Non-Gazetted Posts (Group B) | 25 | 45 |
Notes: Candidates who have not yet reached the minimum age by the cutoff date are ineligible, and those who have already exceeded the maximum age by that date are also ineligible. The cutoff date (explained below) is typically specified in the RPSC notification.
The RPSC fixes a specific cutoff date to calculate the candidate’s age – often January 1 of the year following the exam notification. In practice, this means a candidate must have attained the required age by the designated date. For example, if the exam notification is released late in the year, the candidate must have turned 21 by January 1 of the next year. In effect, the upper age (e.g. 40 years) is “as on” that cutoff date. Applicants should refer to the official RPSC notification for the exact cutoff date when calculating their eligibility.

| OBC (including MBC) – Male | 21 | 45 (+5) |
| OBC – Female | 21 | 50 (+10) |
| SC/ST – Male | 21 | 45 (+5) |
| SC/ST – Female | 21 | 50 (+10) |
| EWS – Male | 21 | 45 (+5) |
| EWS – Female | 21 | 50 (+10) |

| Widow/Divorced Women | 21 | No upper limit |
| Ex-Servicemen (Rajasthan domicile) | 21 | 50 (max) |
| Non-Gazetted State Govt Employees | 25 | 45 |
RPSC provides upper-age relaxations for various reserved categories under state rules. The table below summarizes the typical relaxations. (These relaxations generally apply only to candidates who are from Rajasthan; non-domiciled candidates are treated under the general category.)
|
Category (Rajasthan domicile) |
Relaxation in Upper Age Limit |
| SC/ST/OBC (and EWS) – Male candidates | +5 years |
| SC/ST/OBC (and EWS) – Female candidates | +10 years |
| General category – Female candidates (non-reserved) | +5 years |
| Widows and Divorced Women (any category) | No upper age limit |
| Person with Benchmark Disability (PwD) – General category | +10 years |
| PwD – OBC category | +13 years |
| PwD – SC/ST category | +15 years |
In practice, SC/ST/OBC/EWS candidates of Rajasthan get 5 extra years (males) or 10 years (females) beyond the normal limit. General (unreserved) female candidates get 5 extra years. Widowed or divorced female candidates have no upper age limit. PwD candidates receive up to 10–15 years relaxation depending on category (15 years for SC/ST, 13 for OBC, 10 for General). Additional relaxations exist for ex-servicemen, prison service, and government servants as per rules. Importantly, these age relaxations typically apply only to candidates with Rajasthan domicile. Non-Rajasthan candidates are generally treated in the unreserved category.
Beyond age, RAS applicants must meet educational and nationality criteria. The basic requirements are:
|
RAS Eligibility |
Details |
| Educational Qualification | – Must hold a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized Indian university or equivalent institution. – Final-year students may apply provisionally, provided they produce proof of graduation before the Mains or Interview stage. |
| Nationality | – Must be an Indian citizen. – Subjects of Nepal or Bhutan may be eligible with a valid eligibility certificate. – Priority is given to Indian citizens, particularly those domiciled in Rajasthan. – Foreign nationals and persons without Indian citizenship are not eligible. – Candidates from outside Rajasthan are treated as General category for reservation purposes. |
There is no fixed limit on the number of times a candidate can appear for the RAS exam. A candidate may attempt the exam repeatedly as long as they continue to meet the age (and other eligibility) requirements. In other words, one can keep applying until one has exceeded the permitted upper age for their category. RPSC notifications do not prescribe a cap on attempts.
Reserved category candidates from Rajasthan get additional age relaxation. SC/ST/OBC (and EWS) male candidates get 5 extra years (so up to 45), and SC/ST/OBC (EWS) females get 10 extra years (up to 50) beyond the normal limit. For example, an SC male who is 45 on the cutoff date is still eligible, because of the +5 years relaxation.
Yes. All female candidates of the general category receive a 5-year relaxation (so up to 45 instead of 40). Moreover, SC/ST/OBC females get a total of 10 extra years over the base limit. Widowed or divorced women have no upper age limit (they are exempt from the maximum age).
PwD candidates get considerable relaxation depending on their category. Generally, a PwD candidate in the General category gets 10 extra years. If the PwD candidate is OBC, the relaxation is 13 years, and if SC/ST, 15 years. For example, a physically disabled SC candidate could be up to 55 years old (40+15) on the cutoff date.
No. RPSC does not impose a limit on attempts. Candidates can try as many times as they wish until they exceed the upper age limit for their category. Each attempt still requires meeting all the eligibility criteria at the time of application.
