Eligibility Criteria for Maharatna Status

Maharatna status is granted by the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE), it comes under the Ministry of Finance, Government of India. To qualify for Maharatna status, a CPSE must meet the following criteria:

  • Navratna Status: to get Maharatna status company must already hold Navratna status.
  • Stock Exchange Listing: The company must be listed on Indian stock exchanges with a minimum public shareholding as per SEBI regulations (typically 10%).
  • Financial Performance:
    • Average annual turnover of over ₹25,000 crore for the last 3 years.
    • Average annual net worth of over ₹15,000 crore for the last 3 years.
    • Average annual net profit after tax of over ₹5,000 crore for the last 3 years.
  • Global Presence: The company must have significant international operations or market impact.
