The UPSC has released its official notification on 29 July 2025, announcing three types of EPFO exams to fill 230 vacancies. Types of EPFO exams are given below:

  • Enforcement Officer/Accounts Officer (EO/AO)
  • Assistant Provident Fund Commissioner (APFC), and
  • Personal Assistant (PA)

What is EPFO PA Exam?

EPFO PA Exam, also known as  Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation Personal Assistant Exam, is a prestigious competitive recruitment examination conducted by the UPSC to select candidates for the position of the Personal Assistant (PA). EPFO PA role is a Group B, Non-Gazetted post responsible for administrative tasks such as drafting correspondence, scheduling meetings, shorthand dictation, and transcription, etc.

What are EO and AO in EPFO?

EO and AO stand for Enforcement Officer and Accounts Officer, respectively. These are designations for the same position, officially referred to as Enforcement Officer/Accounts Officer (EO/AO). EO/AO is a Group B, Non-Gazetted post under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India.

UPSC EPFO Exam Eligibility

  • A Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognised university. Degrees in Law, Management, or related fields are desirable but not mandatory.
  • Must be Indian citizens, or subjects of Nepal/Bhutan, Tibetan refugees (pre-1962), or persons of Indian origin from specified countries (e.g., Pakistan, Sri Lanka, etc.), intending to settle permanently in India.
  • EO/AO: Maximum 30 years (as of August 1, 2025).
  • APFC: Maximum 35 years (as of August 1, 2025).
  • Age relaxation applies as per UPSC norms (e.g., for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD/EPFO employees).

UPSC EPFO Exam Qualification

EO/AO: Maximum 30 years (as of August 1, 2025). APFC: Maximum 35 years (as of August 1, 2025). Age relaxation applies as per UPSC norms (e.g., for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD/EPFO employees).

UPSC EPFO Exam Pattern

UPSC EPFO exam pattern: According to the UPSC notification, the EPFO written exam will have a 300-mark section out of a total of 400 marks.

  • There will be 120 objective-type questions, and four choices will be provided for each question in the EPFO exam
  • All questions will carry the same marks.
  • Applicants will be given  2 hours to solve the question paper.
  • The question paper will be in both  Hindi and English.
  • 1/3rd marks will be deducted for each wrong answer in the UPSC EPFO exam.
  • For written qualified candidates, there will be an interview of 100 Marks
