UPSC Prelims 2025 Overview

The UPSC Prelims is divided into two papers: General Studies Paper I and CSAT (Paper II). Paper I tests a candidate’s knowledge in areas such as current affairs, Indian history, geography, polity, economy, environment, and general science, with a total of 200 marks to be attempted in 2 hours.

CSAT or Paper II is a qualifying paper designed to assess skills in comprehension, logical reasoning, numerical ability, and decision-making, also carrying 200 marks. However, candidates need to score a minimum of 33% in CSAT to qualify. This syllabus plays a key role in preparing effectively for the Prelims stage.
