Enquiry Commission

Enquiry Commission: The Kerala government recently appointed an enquiry commission under the Commissions of Inquiry Act to submit recommendations on the nature of Munambam land, a disputed land as a Waqf property.

  • About: The Enquiry Commission was appointed under the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1952 which extends to the whole of India.
  • Purpose: Inquiry into any definite matter of public importance.
  • Powers of a civil court under the Code of Civil Procedure, 1908:

o For summoning and enforcing attendance of any person from any part of India and examining on oath → Requiring discovery and production of any document → Receiving

o evidence on affidavits → Requisitioning public records or copies from any court or office → Issuing commissions for the examination of witnesses or documents.
