1. UIDAI: Recently, in a significant step towards citizen-centric digital governance, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) launched ‘Udai (उदय)’, the official Aadhaar mascot.

• About Udai: Resident-facing communication companion for Aadhaar services
• Designed to make complex Aadhaar concepts simple and people-friendly
• Acts as a visual and narrative guide for citizens interacting with Aadhaar
• Objectives: Explains Aadhaar services such as updates, authentication, and verification
• Makes technical processes easy to understand for all age and literacy groups
• Builds an emotional and visual connection with Aadhaar as a public good
• Encourages responsible and informed usage of Aadhaar services
• Aids communication on offline Aadhaar, selective data sharing, and new technologies
• Helps bridge the gap between digital systems and first-time or hesitant users

2. Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Protection: Recently, the Textiles Committee and the North Eastern Handloom and Handicraft Development Corporation (NEHHDC) signed an MoU to strengthen Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) protection.

• Key Highlights: The MoU was signed during the North Eastern Region Conclave held in Guwahati, Assam.
  • Objective: To ensure IPR protection of Northeastern handloom and handicraft products
• To promote GI registration and post-GI value chain development
• To preserve and commercialize region-specific traditional craftsmanship
  • Facilitation of GI registration for 33 unique products: 18 products from Nagaland and 15 products from Meghalaya

3. PANKHUDI: Recently, the Government has unveiled PANKHUDI, a dedicated digital platform to channel CSR, voluntary, and institutional partnerships for women and child development.

• About PANKHUDI: Core Purpose: Strengthen coordination between government, private sector, NGOs, and citizens
• Enable transparent, structured, and technology-driven collaboration
• Improve delivery of welfare services for women and children
• Key Features: Single-Window Digital Platform: Brings together: Individuals & NRIs, NGOs & civil society, CSR contributors & corporate entities, Central & State Government agencies
• Focus Areas: Nutrition and health, Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE), Child welfare, protection, and rehabilitation, Women’s safety, empowerment, and dignity.
• PANKHUDI digitally supports implementation of: Mission Saksham Anganwadi & Poshan 2.0, Mission Vatsalya and Mission Shakti

4. National Quality Infrastructure: Recently, CSIR–National Physical Laboratory (CSIR-NPL) inaugurated two apex-level calibration facilities, strengthening India’s National Quality Infrastructure.

• About Facility 1: National Primary Standard Facility for Solar Cell Calibration (NPF-SCC)
• Purpose: Provides world-class calibration of reference solar cells and panels
• Establishes a complete domestic traceability chain for photovoltaic metrology
  • Key Technological Features: Laser-based Differential Spectral Responsivity Primary Reference Measurement System
• Developed in collaboration with Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), Germany
• Measures short-circuit current with ±0.35% uncertainty (k=2)
• Among the lowest uncertainties globally under the World Photovoltaic Scale
• About Facility 2: National Environmental Standard Laboratory (NESL): Earlier reliance on European/US-certified instruments but foreign calibration unsuitable for Indian temperature, humidity, pollution mix, and dust load
  • Core Functions: Testing and recalibration of air pollution monitoring instruments
• Validation of environmental sensors under Indian conditions
• Provision of reference gases, protocols, and uncertainty evaluation

5. Mars Sample Return (MSR) Mission: Recently, the European Space Agency (ESA) confirmed that the Mars Sample Return (MSR) mission, a joint project with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), has been cancelled due to funding and strategic changes.

• About Mars Sample Return Mission: The MSR was one of the most ambitious space science missions ever conceived, aimed at returning Martian rock and soil samples to Earth for groundbreaking analysis.
• It was designed as a multi-mission campaign, combining several spacecraft components including a sample retrieval lander, ascent vehicle, and Earth return orbiter.
• Samples would be selected from those gathered and cached on Mars by NASA’s Perseverance rover, which has already deposited dozens of tubes on the Martian surface.
• Scientists considered a successful sample return crucial for understanding Martian geology, climate history, and potential past life.
• Why the Mission Was Called Off: The mission’s ballooning cost, once estimated at around US $11 billion, made it a major financial challenge.
• ESA officials acknowledged that Europe cannot afford to execute the mission alone without NASA participation.
• The U.S. space policy has shifted emphasis toward lunar programs and crewed Mars exploration, leading to reprioritisation of funds away from robotic MSR missions.

6. Nationwide Cashless Treatment Scheme: Recently, in a major push to strengthen road safety and emergency healthcare, the Government of India is set to launch a nationwide cashless treatment scheme for road accident victims.

• About Cashless Treatment Scheme: Cashless medical treatment up to ₹1.5 lakh for road accident victims
• Coverage across all roads in India, not limited to National Highways
• Immediate trauma care during the critical first 60 minutes (Golden Hour)

7. UNDESA: Recently, the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) projected India’s GDP growth at 7.2% in FY 2025–26.

8. Thanthai Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary: Recently, the first phase of the All-India Tiger Estimation–2026 (AITE-26) began at Thanthai Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, marking a key step in India’s nationwide tiger monitoring exercise.

• About Thanthai Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary: Situated in the Bargur Hills of Erode district, Tamil Nadu, the sanctuary occupies a strategic ecological location.
• It forms a crucial wildlife linkage between the Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve (Tamil Nadu) and Male Mahadeshwara & Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuaries (Karnataka).
• Recognised by the National Tiger Conservation Authority, it is designated as a vital tiger corridor ensuring landscape-level connectivity.
• The sanctuary is an integral part of the Nilgiris Elephant Reserve, supporting long-range elephant movement.
• Ecologically, it lies at the confluence of the Eastern Ghats and Western Ghats, near the Nilgiris, enhancing its biodiversity significance.
• Hydrology: The forests act as a catchment for the Palar River, which ultimately joins the Cauvery River system.
• Wildlife: The area sustains robust populations of large herbivores, notably Asian elephants and Indian gaur, forming a strong prey base.
• All-India Tiger Estimation (AITE): Conducted once every four years across India.
• Objective: To evaluate the population status, distribution, and trends of tigers

9. Atmospheric Heating: Recently, a new study supported by India’s science ecosystem has delivered a crucial insight: water vapour contributes far more to atmospheric heating than aerosols.

• Key Highlights: Water vapour heats the atmosphere far more than aerosols, making it a dominant driver of atmospheric warming over the Indo-Gangetic Plain (IGP).
• Aerosol–water vapour interactions significantly alter Earth’s radiation budget, affecting surface, atmospheric, and top-of-atmosphere radiative forcing.
• Water Vapour Radiative Effects (WVRE) are strongest in clean (aerosol-free) atmospheres, but shift towards the top of the atmosphere under high aerosol loading.
• Indo-Gangetic Plain is a global aerosol hotspot, with large spatial and temporal variability, complicating climate impact assessments.
• Aerosols modulate—but do not outweigh—the heating role of water vapour, especially under varying solar angles and absorption conditions.
• Six AERONET sites across IGP were analysed using SBDART radiative transfer simulations, ensuring high observational reliability.
• Presence of aerosols dampens near-surface WVRE, while enhancing its signature at higher atmospheric levels.
• Findings have strong implications for Indian Summer Monsoon dynamics, regional climate projections, and extreme weather prediction.
