6. Parakaempferia Alba: Recently, a new ginger species, Parakaempferia alba, was discovered in the Siang Valley of Arunachal Pradesh and documented in the Nordic Journal of Botany.
About Parakaempferia alba: Belongs to ginger plants, which are herbaceous perennials with aromatic, pungent rhizomes widely used as spice, food and medicine.
Members of Zingiberaceae typically thrive in moist, shaded tropical habitats.
Discovery Details: Location: East Siang District, Arunachal Pradesh
Habitat: Shaded stream banks with humid, sandy soils
Altitude range: 150–400 metres
Distribution: Found in moist tropical and subtropical forests of Southeast Asia.
Distinctive Features: Displays a leaf shape distinct from its closest relative Parakaempferia synantha.
Flower spikes and bracts show clear structural differences from related species.
Possesses unique glands near the base of the flower (ovary region), absent in allied taxa.
Biodiversity Significance: The discovery reinforces Arunachal Pradesh’s position within the Eastern Himalayas, one of the world’s global biodiversity hotspots, underlining its exceptional ecological richness and conservation value.

8. Rare Ant Flies: Recently, Indian researchers discovered two new species of rare ant flies from Delhi and the Western Ghats.
