Context: India has extended $1 million in humanitarian assistance to Kenya in the wake of devastation caused by floods that have hit the country.


Kenya

  • About: Kenya is a country in East Africa with coastline on the Indian Ocean. 

o The Equator passes through in Kenya

  • Location: Kenya is bordered to the north by South Sudan and Ethiopia, to the east by Somalia and the Indian Ocean, to the south by Tanzania, and to the west by Lake Victoria and Uganda.
  • Capital: Nairobi.
  • Geographic features:

o It encompasses savannah, Lakelands, the dramatic Great Rift Valley and mountain highlands.

o The "Big Five" game animals of Africa, that is the lion, leopard, buffalo, rhinoceros, and elephant, can be found in Kenya and in the Masai Mara in particular.

  • River: Tana River
  • Mountain: Mount Kenya, is the second-highest mountain in Africa.
  • Headquarters: United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat).
