8th Pay Commission: The Union Cabinet recently approved the 8th Pay Commission.

• About: A pay commission is constituted by the central government approximately every decade to revise the salary structure of its employees and determine pension payments.
• 8th Pay Commission to be set up in 2026, a year before the end of the 7th Pay Commission.
• The 7th Pay Commission was established in 2016, and its term ends on December 31, 2025.
• Since 1947, seven Pay Commissions have been established.
• The 7th Pay Commission recommendations were implemented in January 2016, with a 14% salary hike for government employees.
