Integrated Aquapark : Recently, in a significant initiative to enhance fisheries development in the Northeast, the Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, and Panchayati Raj laid the foundation stone for an Integrated Aquapark in Kailashahar, Tripura.

၀ The project is being implemented under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY).

  • Tripura’s Fisheries Potential: The fisheries sector is India's fastest-growing agri-allied sector, recording 9.08% growth since 2014–15.

၀ Tripura has strong potential to become a fish-surplus state, with a target of producing 2 lakh tonnes of fish annually against a current demand of 1.5 lakh tonnes.

၀ Out of 11 Integrated Aquaparks planned across India, 4 are located in the Northeast, including one in Tripura.

၀ The vision is to develop Tripura into an Organic Fish Cluster, inspired by Sikkim’s organic agriculture model.

Sikkim – India’s First Organic State: Sikkim has become the country’s first fully organic state by converting 75,000 hectares of farmland to certified organic practices under the National Programme for Organic Production.

2. Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP)

3. International Day for Women in Maritime

International Day for Women in Maritime : Recently, the ‘Sagar Mein Samman’ (SMS) initiative was launched during the International Day for Women in Maritime celebrations.

၀ It aims to promote gender equity and empower women in the maritime sector, reflecting the government’s commitment to inclusivity and sustainability.

  • About Sagar Mein Samman(SMS): The SMS policy provides a comprehensive framework to enhance women’s participation in all facets of maritime operations—from dockside roles to executive leadership. It aims to:

၀ Ensure women’s safety, leadership opportunities, and retention

၀ Align with the government’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) objectives

၀ Sets a target of 12% female representation in technical maritime roles by 2030

  • Growth in Women Seafarers: Women seafarers in India have grown by 649%, from 341 in 2014 to 2,557 in 2024.

၀ Financial assistance for women pursuing maritime careers increased from 45 in 2014-15 to 732 in 2024-25.

၀ Over 2,989 women seafarers have received government support in the last decade.

၀ Since 2015, registered women seafarers have risen by 739%, from 1,699 to 14,255 in 2024, indicating steady progress in gender inclusion.


4. Pusa-44 Variety-Hybrid Paddy

Pusa-44 Variety-Hybrid Paddy: Recently, the Punjab government banned the cultivation of hybrid paddy and the Pusa-44 variety to tackle severe groundwater depletion and related environmental issues.

  • Hybrid Paddy: Crossbred non-Basmati rice developed from two different parent lines.

Purpose: Designed for high-yield, water-efficient, and early-maturing cultivation.

Common Varieties in Punjab: Sava 127, Sava 134, Sava 7501, 27P22, VNR 203.

Growth Duration: 125–130 days (short-duration).

Average Yield: 35–40 quintals per acre (5–6 quintals more than traditional varieties).

Stubble Generation: Produces less stubble, helping reduce stubble burning.

Use Case: Popular in commercial farming due to shorter cycles and efficient output.

  • Pusa-44: Long-duration, high-yield paddy variety developed by the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI).

Purpose: Widely adopted for its exceptional yield potential.

Growth Duration: 155–160 days (long-duration), maturing in late October.

Average Yield: 35–36 quintals per acre.

Stubble Generation: Contributes significantly to stubble burning due to time pressure before the wheat season.

Environmental Impact: Major source of post-harvest air pollution in North India.


5. PSLV-C61

PSLV-C61: Recently, the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C61) carrying the Earth Observation Satellite (EOS-09) lifted off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota.

၀ However, the mission could not be completed due to a drop in chamber pressure in the third-stage solid rocket motor shortly after its ignition.

  • About PSLV-C61:The 63rd flight of the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) and the 27th using the PSLV-XL configuration.

Mission Objective: To launch EOS-09, an Earth Observation Satellite, into a Sun Synchronous Polar Orbit (SSPO).

ü Uses alternating solid and liquid propulsion stages
