PSLV-C61

PSLV-C61: Recently, the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C61) carrying the Earth Observation Satellite (EOS-09) lifted off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota.

၀ However, the mission could not be completed due to a drop in chamber pressure in the third-stage solid rocket motor shortly after its ignition.

  • About PSLV-C61:The 63rd flight of the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) and the 27th using the PSLV-XL configuration.

၀ Developed by: Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

၀ Mission Objective: To launch EOS-09, an Earth Observation Satellite, into a Sun Synchronous Polar Orbit (SSPO).

၀ Vehicle Features:

ü Height: 44.5 meters

ü Lift-off Mass: 321 tonnes

ü Four-stage rocket with six solid strap-on boosters

ü Uses alternating solid and liquid propulsion stages

၀ Sustainability Efforts: Includes planned use of Orbit Change Thrusters (OCT) and passivation of the fourth stage (PS4) to minimize space debris.
