Javelin Anti-tank Guided Missile (ATGM) System

• About: This system developed jointly by Raytheon and Lockheed Martin, prominent American defense contractors.
• Target Capability: Designed primarily to defeat heavily armored vehicles like main battle tanks, as well as lighter-skinned military vehicles.

oAlso effective against fortifications, bunkers, and helicopters due to its versatile targeting capabilities.

• Service: Entered service with the U.S. military in 1996, marking its deployment and operational use in combat scenarios.

Features of the Javelin ATGM System:

• Physical Dimensions: Measures approximately 1.2 meters in length and 127 mm in diameter.

oWeighs 22.1 kg, making it portable yet powerful for its intended purposes.

• Warhead Composition: Carries a single 8.4 kg tandem-charge, high-explosive antitank (HEAT) warhead, optimized for armor penetration.
• Maximum Range: 2,500 meters, ensuring effective engagement capabilities over significant distances.
• Guidance System: Utilizes "fire-and-forget" technology, employing automatic infrared guidance.

oCapable of autonomously guiding itself to the target without requiring external commands or additional target designation.

• Combat Applications: Can be employed in direct attack mode for precise destruction of ground targets.
• When fired upwards, it can intercept and neutralize low-flying aircraft such as helicopters.
• Operational Efficiency: Reload and reacquire time is minimal, approximately one minute, facilitating rapid reengagement during combat operations.
