Integrated Aquapark

Integrated Aquapark : Recently, in a significant initiative to enhance fisheries development in the Northeast, the Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, and Panchayati Raj laid the foundation stone for an Integrated Aquapark in Kailashahar, Tripura.

၀ The project is being implemented under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY).

  • Tripura’s Fisheries Potential: The fisheries sector is India's fastest-growing agri-allied sector, recording 9.08% growth since 2014–15.

၀ Tripura has strong potential to become a fish-surplus state, with a target of producing 2 lakh tonnes of fish annually against a current demand of 1.5 lakh tonnes.

၀ Out of 11 Integrated Aquaparks planned across India, 4 are located in the Northeast, including one in Tripura.

၀ The vision is to develop Tripura into an Organic Fish Cluster, inspired by Sikkim’s organic agriculture model.

၀ Sikkim – India’s First Organic State: Sikkim has become the country’s first fully organic state by converting 75,000 hectares of farmland to certified organic practices under the National Programme for Organic Production.

  • Organic Fisheries Cluster: The initiative focuses on producing fish free from antibiotics, chemicals, and pesticides, targeting environmentally conscious global markets.
