Context: The Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan, is a mission to galvanize the forces of growth and ensure innovative, inclusive, and equitable growth by harnessing the untapped human potential and optimally utilizing the natural resources and technology.

Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan

  • Significance: 
  • It is not a call for protectionism or isolationism: but a pragmatic development strategy to enable the country to recognize and capitalize on its inherent strengths.
  • Transforming local into glocal: meet domestic demand and build uniquely Indian global brands.
  • Launchpad for: fostering entrepreneurship & nurturing innovation.
  • Creates an ecosystem: for rural-urban symbiotic development.
  • Development and sustainability: of MSMEs, farm, and non-farm sectors.
  • Inspiration from pioneers: who have already built global brands in various sectors (Bajaj Auto, Hindustan Unilever, Larsen and Toubro, Bharati Airtel, Sun Pharmaceuticals, Maruti).
  • Need  
  • Acute shortage of basic requirements: forced us to scale up the production of essentials needed to fight the virus.
  • Opportunity: Disrupted global supply channels of both internal and international trade.
  • Perceived Potential: Medicines made in India like Hydroxychloroquine were in great demand from various nations.

  • Reduce import dependency in every sector.
  • Increasing the efficiency and quality of all sectors
  • Trigger reforms in the policy matrix and charting out the way forward in post covid world.
  • Preparedness for tough competition in the global supply chain.
  • Quantum jump to the economic potential: of the country by strengthening infrastructure, using modern technologies, enriching human resource, and creating robust supply chains.
  • Optimal utilization: of our natural, human, and technological resources to meet basic and core necessities.

Way Forward

  • High-quality technical and vocational training for youth: converting our demographic advantage into a demographic dividend
  • Simplified procedures: for setting up and running businesses.
  • Foster research and innovation.
  • Internalize the concept of valuing local products and artifacts and promoting them (being vocal for “local”).
  • Demand generation and global market expansion by branding efforts. 
  • Promote creative experimentation.
  • Strategic focus: on the critical growth restricting bottlenecks and find their solutions.
