ContextCovid-19 crisis has provided an opportunity to rethink of our growth model of village-based development.

Covid 19 crisis has set new normal for humanity. The fundamental facet of the new normal should be to ensure livelihood security and living in harmony with nature. Science and Technology should be utilised to create a fast-paced sustainable development approach.

Learning from Current Pandemics

  • We need to have credible pandemic management plan with pre-defined role and action from local level to global level. 
  • Panic-driven irrational responses at any level should be avoided by ensuring transparency and Meticulous planning at grassroot level should be done in every sector.

Credible rural centric Pandemic management plan 

  • Employment: Leverage demographic dividend and knowledge technologies to create attractive jobs in rural area.
  • Education and skilling youth: build their capacity to earn livelihood in fields that go beyond the traditional concept of rural jobs.
  • Broadening approach to schemes: support rural youth wanting to transition to new-age jobs.
  • Rural level entrepreneurship: bridge rural-urban gap, decongest urban areas and lead to faster and distributed growth.
  • Manufacturing: Value addition should be prime focus while leveraging modern technologies and creative business formats.
  • Land use pattern: Optimum distribution of land for habitat and food for humans as well as other economic activities.
  • Environment: Balancing agriculture, water, energy needs to achieve sustainable environment. Water harvesting, recharge and management system, groundwater levels, irrigated agriculture, flood control etc should be their major components.
  • Education as key enabler of our demographic dividend: to leverage the opportunities of the knowledge era.
  • Education Linkages with industry and society to promote work based learning and real-life problem solving.
  • To enable outreach for technology, capacity building and livelihood enhancement for rural areas.
  • Cillage ecosystem, which connects modern knowledge and research with the needs of new-age villages to benefit from opportunities of knowledge era.
