WOMEN ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROGRAM (Syllabus: GS Paper 2 – Gov. Policies)

Context: The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) recently launched the Women Entrepreneurship Program, aiming to empower women entrepreneurs and drive economic growth.


Women Entrepreneurship Program:

  • About: Designed to address the distinct challenges that women face when starting and growing businesses.
  • Empowerment Goal: Aims to empower approximately 25 lakh women across India with the necessary skills, knowledge, and resources to start and grow successful businesses.
  • Partnership: In collaboration with Britannia Industries Limited.
  • Financial Support: Offers financial grants and showcases products and services on the Skill India Digital Hub to promote an inclusive environment for women entrepreneurs.
  • Certification: Upon completion of these courses, participants will receive a co-branded certificate from NSDC, Britannia Industries, and NIESBUD, acknowledging their entrepreneurial skills and competencies.
  • Educational Resources: NSDC, with support from NIESBUD, provides free online self-learning entrepreneurship courses through the Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH).
  • Course Content: Available in multiple languages, covering entrepreneurial skills, enterprise setup, finance basics, digital skills, and market analysis.


National Skill Development Corporation

  • Establishment: Founded on July 31, 2008, as a not-for-profit public limited company under section 25 of the Companies Act, 1956.
  • Operational Model: Functions as a Public Private Partnership (PPP) model under the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE).
