Context: Pandemic induced crisis presents the urgent need to radically transform and re-imagine the Indian judicial system by initiating technology-based reform.

Technology-driven Reforms in Justice Delivery System

  • Virtual justice delivery system: through video conferencing facilities.
  • Digital payment systems: through court-approved virtual wallets.
  • Online disputes redressal by adopting the online medium of communication: through chats, emails, and the exchange of electronic messages.
  • Contactless protocols: for contactless operations (submission of pleadings, payment of court fees, the conduct of arguments) through E-filing of documents.
  • Incorporating cognitive technology: in dispute resolution workflow to assist in informed decisions making about litigation strategies and reducing unnecessary appeals to ease the judiciary’s workload.
  • Generate data-driven reports on the chances of success, based on analysis of previous judgments.

Hence, the Justice delivery system should harness the full potential of technological advancement rather than just replicating the old Judicial system.
