Following India&#8217;s independence in 1947, Manipur was merged into the Indian Union on <\/span><b>October 15, 1949<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and became a full-fledged state on <\/span><b>January 21, 1972<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Manipurs_Polity\"><\/span><b>Manipur\u2019s Polity<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Manipur has a <\/span><b>Legislative Assembly with 60 seats<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, 20 of which are reserved for Scheduled Tribes and one for Scheduled Castes. Manipur is also represented in the Indian Parliament by <\/span><b>two members in the Lok Sabha <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b>one member in the Rajya Sabha<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. However, due to escalating violence and unrest in the state, Biren Singh resigned on <\/span><b>February 9, 2025<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, leading to a period of <\/span><b>President&#8217;s Rule in Manipur<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The central government took direct control over the state&#8217;s administration in response to the violence and instability, which left the political situation uncertain for a time.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Keibul-Lamjao_National_Parks_of_Manipur\"><\/span><b>Keibul-Lamjao National Parks of Manipur<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><b>Keibul Lamjao National Park<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, located in Manipur\u2019s <\/span><b>Bishnupur district<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, is the world\u2019s only floating national park, covering 40 km\u00b2 within Loktak Lake. Established as a sanctuary in 1966 and designated a national park in 1977, it is home to the endangered Eld&#8217;s deer (Sangai). The park\u2019s unique floating ecosystem, formed by <\/span><b>phumdi <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(organic floating islands), supports various plant and animal species. Other wildlife includes hog deer, wild boar, and hooded cranes. The park faces threats from the Ithai Barrage, water pollution, and human encroachment. This unique site, nominated in 2016, is a <\/span><b>mixed natural and cultural property<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
