It is celebrated every year on April 22. On this day, people all over the world come together to help the Earth. They do many things like planting trees, cleaning rivers, saving electricity, and learning how to protect the Earth. In 2025, we will be celebrating the 55th <\/span><b>World Earth Day<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. This special day is important because it teaches us how to take care of our only home, Earth. The celebration of <\/span><b>World Earth Day<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> includes events in schools, parks, offices, and even online.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The mission of <\/span><b>World Earth Day<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is to encourage everyone to use clean energy and help stop pollution and climate change. The group that leads the day is called the Earth Day Network. Whether big or small, every action counts. Turning off lights, planting a tree, riding a bicycle, or using less plastic can make a big difference.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"History_of_World_Earth_Day\"><\/span><b>History of World Earth Day<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The idea for <\/span><b>World Earth Day<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> started in the 1960s when people began to worry about pollution, dirty air, and the cutting of forests. A writer named Rachel Carson wrote a book called Silent Spring in 1962, which told people how harmful chemicals were hurting animals and plants. This made many people start caring about the environment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Later, in 1969, there was a big oil spill in Santa Barbara, USA, which caused harm to sea animals. This event made even more people want to protect nature. That same year, a peace activist named John McConnell suggested having a special day to honour the Earth. A U.S. senator named Gaylord Nelson and activist Denis Hayes helped plan the first <\/span><b>World Earth Day<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in 1970.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It became a huge success and later, in 1972, the United Nations officially made it an international event. On this day, people are asked to turn off lights for one hour from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm. It is a way to show support for the planet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even though Earth Hour lasts for just 60 minutes, it helps people think about how to save energy every day. Many government programs are helping the environment. Some important ones are:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>UJALA Scheme:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> This program gave 22.66 crore LED bulbs to people. LED bulbs save electricity and help the environment. This program saved over Rs 11,776 crore and reduced 24 metric tons of carbon emissions every year.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Ujjwala Yojana: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This program gives free LPG connections to poor women. Cooking with clean fuel like LPG helps women stay healthy and saves forests from being cut for firewood.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Swachh Bharat Mission:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> This program helps keep cities clean. It also turns waste into energy and recycles water. Over 23,277 million liters of water is cleaned every day in 816 plants.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Green India Mission:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> This mission helps plant trees on empty lands. It aims to increase forest cover by 5 million hectares, which can trap 100 million tons of carbon every year.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Green Credit Program:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> People can now earn Green Credits by doing eco-friendly things like planting trees or saving water.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Global Biofuel Alliance: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India also supports using biofuels (like fuel from plants and waste) to reduce pollution.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>International Solar Alliance (ISA): <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Started by India and France, this alliance wants to bring $1 trillion in solar investments by 2030. This will give clean energy to many countries.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE): <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This program tells people to live in a way that saves nature.
