Why Do We Celebrate National Civil Service Day?<\/b><\/h2>\n

India celebrates <\/span>National Civil Service Day<\/b> every year on April 21. This is a day for civil servants to promise again that they will work honestly and serve the country with full dedication.<\/span><\/p>\n

The first <\/span>National Civil Service Day<\/b> was held on 21 April 2006 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. Since then, it has been celebrated every year.<\/span><\/p>\n

This date is special because on 21 April 1947, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel gave an inspiring speech to the first group of civil servants after India\u2019s independence. He called them the \u201csteel frame of India\u201d, which means they are the strong support of the nation.<\/span><\/p>\n

Father of the Indian Civil Service<\/b><\/h2>\n

Charles Cornwallis is widely regarded as the <\/span>Father of the Indian Civil Service<\/b>. He was the Governor-General of India from 1786 to 1793 and played a key role in laying the foundation of a structured civil service in India. His reforms brought discipline, honesty, and structure to British India’s administrative system.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cornwallis introduced rules for recruitment and salaries and ensured that civil servants maintained ethical standards. Though the national civil service was British in origin, it laid the base for the modern Indian civil service that exists today.<\/span><\/p>\n

Indian Civil Service Act 1861<\/b><\/h2>\n

The <\/span>Indian Civil Service Act 1861<\/b> was a very important law. It allowed Indians to try for civil service jobs. Before this, only British people could become top officers.<\/span><\/p>\n

This Act started competitive exams for the civil service. But the exams were held in London, so it was still hard for many Indians to take part. Later, changes were made to hold exams in India too.<\/span><\/p>\n
