The day also marks the discovery of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteria by Dr. Robert Koch in 1882, which led to the diagnosis and treatment of TB. Despite medical advancements, TB continues to be a major public health issue globally.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"World_TB_Day_2025_Overview\"><\/span><b>World TB Day 2025 Overview<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><b>World TB Day<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is an important event that highlights the impact of TB and the urgent need for action to end the disease. Many countries and health organizations, including the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), take part in various awareness programs. These programs aim to educate people about TB prevention, symptoms, and treatment. We Can End TB.&#8221;<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> This theme emphasizes the need for commitment from governments, financial investments in healthcare, and strong efforts to provide TB treatment to all affected individuals. The theme gives hope that with collective action, TB can be eliminated worldwide<\/span><\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><b>Tuberclousis<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tuberculosis (TB) is a serious infectious disease that primarily affects the lungs. It is caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, a type of bacteria that spreads through the air.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>How Tuberculosis Spreads<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TB is transmitted when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or even sings, releasing tiny droplets containing the bacteria into the air. When another person inhales these droplets, the bacteria can enter their lungs, leading to infection. The risk of TB transmission is higher in crowded places or areas with poor ventilation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Symptoms of Active Tuberculosis<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Individuals with active TB may experience:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Persistent cough lasting more than two weeks<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chest pain<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Coughing up blood or mucus (sputum)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fatigue or weakness<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Loss of appetite<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unintentional weight loss<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fever and chills<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Night sweats<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Causes of Tuberculosis<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tuberculosis is caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteria. While the infection mainly affects the lungs, it can also spread to other parts of the body, such as the kidneys, spine, or brain.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Early diagnosis and timely treatment are crucial to controlling the spread of TB and preventing complications.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"TB_Cases_in_the_World\"><\/span><b>TB Cases in the World<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TB remains a leading cause of death worldwide. <\/span><b>In 2023, an estimated 1.25 million people died due to TB.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> During the COVID-19 pandemic, TB was briefly the second-most deadly infectious disease, but it has now returned as the leading infectious disease worldwide.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2023, around 10.8 million people were diagnosed with TB globally.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The disease affected 6.0 million men, 3.6 million women, and 1.3 million children.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TB is present in every country and can affect people of all ages.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TB is curable and preventable with proper treatment and awareness.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Global Tuberculosis Report 2024<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><b>According to the WHO Global Tuberculosis Report 2024<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, there has been an increase in TB cases worldwide. Some key findings of the report are:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">8.2 million new TB cases were reported in 2023, up from 7.5 million in 2022. Additionally, TB-related deaths in India have also decreased by 21.4%, from 28 per lakh population in 2015 to 22 per lakh population in 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India has set a goal to eliminate TB by 2025, five years earlier than the global target of 2030 set by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN-SDGs). This reflects India\u2019s strong commitment to eradicating TB.<\/span><\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India is committed to ending TB by 2025, five years ahead of the United Nations SDG target of 2030. To achieve this goal, <\/span><b>India has also signed the Gandhinagar Declaration,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> along with health ministers from other WHO South-East Asia Region countries. Some of the major steps taken include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>100-Day Campaign:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> A focused initiative to improve TB diagnosis and treatment in a short time.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>National Strategic Plan (NSP) for TB Elimination 2017\u20132025: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A long-term strategy to reduce TB incidence and mortality.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Nikshay Poshan Yojana: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A scheme providing nutritional support to TB patients to help them recover faster.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Active Case Finding (ACF):<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> A strategy where healthcare workers visit high-risk areas to detect TB cases early.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Free TB Testing and Treatment: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The government provides free TB tests and medicines to all patients in India.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">World TB Day 2025 serves as a reminder of the global fight against tuberculosis. India has made significant progress in reducing TB cases, but challenges remain. Through strong government initiatives, early diagnosis, and public awareness, India aims to eliminate TB by 2025.
