The Indian Constitution recognizes 22 languages under the Eighth Schedule.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Major languages spoken in India include Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Urdu, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi, Odia, Assamese, Kashmiri, Sindhi, Konkani, Nepali, Maithili, Santali, Manipuri, and Bodo.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Government of India has granted Classical Language status to six languages: Tamil, Sanskrit, Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam and Odia.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Article 343:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Declares Hindi in Devanagari script as the official language of India.
