Face to Face Evaluation & Discussion (60 Seats)
For Personalized Evaluation, the student can book a slot of 30-40 minutes, wherein both the essays of each Test will be evaluated by the faculty. It is highly recommended for those who are not seeing much improvement in their Essay marks as LIVE evaluation will deconstruct their mistakes to the minute details. It will help in internalization of inputs, knowing rationale for low/high marks and how to make further improvements through one to one discussion.
WHY STUDENTS SCORE LOW IN ESSAY PAPER?
- Topic Selection : Unnecessarily students choose a difficult, unconventional topic. A good topic with bad content will (definitely!) not fetch marks. Choice of topic must be based on familiarity with the topic. If you are comfortable with the topic, ideas will flow naturally. Choose a topic where you can generate more dimensions and have a reasonable depth of knowledge.
- Writing introduction : Tendency to overuse quotes or straight jacket them where they do not belong, works negatively for the students. Preferably, start with a relevant quote! You may narrate a historical anecdote, state a current situation (fact, news etc.), relate a personal story, pose a counter question, can extrapolate a future happening based on current scenario etc.
- Structuring of Essay : Inability to organize thoughts & varied dimensions reflects lack of clarity. Each paragraph, preferably should have a unique idea which must not be repeated anywhere else in the essay. You can divide the entire essay into 6-7 major parts and give relevant sub-headings.
- Overuse of Optional Knowledge : It limits the ability to generate general and varied dimensions. Do not make your essay too complex. This requires brainstorming of points and prioritising them to give a proper flow to the essay, which needs to be practised before examination.
- Simple vs Simplistic language : It’s not about writing heavy words and showing the strength of your vocabulary. However, do not hesitate to be creative with language - use keywords, quotes, idioms etc and make your essay interesting.
- Use of Diagrams like GS answers : Few students often attempt to “force fit” diagrams/mindmaps. Avoid them or use only if it goes with the overall flow of your idea. Tables can be used to show data, if necessary, or maps.
- Lack of Practice : The more you sweat in peace, the less you bleed in war. Overemphasis on preparing GS Papers and postponing Essay writing practice to the Eleventh hour can be detrimental. However, Practice without an effective feedback is pointless. Errors/gaps must be identified & corrected.
